Along the lines of our last blog post about September being Healthy Aging Awareness Month, Loh Ophthalmology Associates is so proud to announce that September also brought us the XEN® Gel Stent as a new treatment for our glaucoma patients!
Dr. Jennifer Loh has been treating glaucoma patients for many years and now is so proud to announce the arrival of the XEN® Gel stent for patients who have not responded well to other treatments or medications! See some pictures below of Dr. Loh in the operating room with our first XEN® patient!
How does it work? The XEN® Gel Stent is a surgical implant designed to lower high eye pressure in open-angle glaucoma patients where previous surgical treatment has failed and/or medications alone were insufficient (also known as refractory glaucoma). It is a very small device that can make a huge difference!
Did you know that glaucoma is the second leading cause of vision loss in the United States?
The damage glaucoma causes is not reversible so glaucoma treatment is focused on saving a patients’ remaining vision.
What we want to emphasize in this article is that it is so important for our patients to remember that early diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma is extremely important!
If you would like to learn more about what glaucoma is, how it affects your vision, how we test for it and all that can be done for it, please visit our brand new glaucoma page which has recently been updated with all of the new treatments Dr. Loh can offer our patients.
Even though glaucoma can not be reversed, the goal of glaucoma management is to prevent damage to the optic nerve, by lowering the intraocular pressure, or IOP.
Outside of the very commonly used pressure lowering eye drops, you can find all of the options of glaucoma treatment at LOA by clicking here.
Remember, the biggest factor in the treatment of your glaucoma is YOU. If you take your diagnosis seriously, use your prescribed medications and see your eye doctor regularly for evaluations, you are much more likely to have a favorable outcome. We have several treatment options for you at LOA so please call us at 786 558-8542 or contact us through our website by clicking on the “Contact Us” option if you have vision loss or blurry vision and would like an evaluation with our doctors at Loh Ophthalmology Associates.
